ABOUT COMMUNITY ARTS UNIVERSITY WITHOUT WALLS (CAUWW)

CAUWW SUMMER 2017 DATES: JULY 10TH-21ST

Community Arts University Without Walls is a creative cultural experience in Puerto Rico curated by the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute for woke individuals that are passionate about cultural immersive educational travel and want to engage with others involved in cultural arts advocacy. Travelers will get to connect with the cultural workers leading a very progressive and empowering arts and cultural movement in Puerto Rico. The island, recently recognized as a US colony by the United Nations, is currently undergoing a debt crisis comparable to the financial collapses of Greece and Detroit. Amidst the economic and humanitarian uncertainties, a powerful cultural and art movement has bloomed. CCCADI, a pioneer in wielding art as a tool of social justice, takes you right to the center of this movement with CAUWW.

Join us in Puerto Rico this summer and meet social justice advocates, including artists, farmers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and community experts, and learn about the history, arts, and culture of the island in the past, present and into the future.

The trip includes interactive visits that have been designed to provide an enriching and transformative encounters between visitors and locals. From Loiza to Ponce, from the rapidly-changing urban neighborhood of Santurce to a revitalized farm in the high mountains of the island, each stop reveals the challenges and opportunities that inspire a strong sense of identity, community, and advocacy in Puerto Rico. They’ll give you tools to bring back home and incorporate into your own communities during these changing times.

With a focus on the legacy of the social justice and cultural movements in Puerto Rico and the rest of the Americas, CAUWW explores important contemporary issues including cultural equity, social and economic justice and their continuing impact on the present and future generations of cultural arts activists.

This is an intense excursion into the power of art and culture to shape and transform societies.
