CRITICALLY BLACK DIALOGUE SERIES: DISASTER IS POLITICAL - RESPONDING TO FIONA

THE CCCADI CRITICALLY BLACK DIALOGUE SERIES IS DEDICATED TO EXPLORING ISSUES AND TOPICS THAT EXAMINE THE DEEPLY ROOTED PAN-AFRICAN VISION THAT HAS ALLOWED US TO SURVIVE, DESPITE OUR STRUGGLES, AND HAS KEPT US INTERCONNECTED TO THIS DAY.

This installment of the series is a special responsive panel to our community’s Hurricane Fiona recovery efforts on the ground in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and the role of the broader Diasporic community in providing support.

This panel will discuss the vulnerability Caribbean island nations have to natural disasters, due in particular, to the crippling effects of oppressive governing systems that underserve the people.

From their respective lived experiences of working on the ground in the aftermath of such disasters, our panelists will offer insights on how our community at large can provide support that addresses the immediate needs of those affected by Fiona and how we can collectively make larger strides in combating systemic inequities that limit access to resources and disaster preparedness.
