SACRED TRADITIONS: EL NUEVO ORO: A NEW GENERATION OF YORUBA SACRED SOUND

JOIN US FOR THIS VIRTUAL MUSICAL PERFORMANCE DESIGNED TO SHOWCASE THE NEWEST GENERATION OF OLU-BATA, OMO-ALANYA, AND AKPWON IN NEW YORK CITY’S LUCUMI COMMUNITY AND COMMEMORATE THE FEAST DAY OF THE ORISHA SHANGO, OWNER OF THE SACRED BATÁ DRUMS AND LORD OF THE DRUM AND DANCE.

In Yoruba sacred traditions, the oro is a sacred litany that honors the orishas of the Yoruba pantheon, and calls them to the Earth to perform sacred acts. Revering the transmission of Yoruba culture and tradition to the new culture bearers charged with the preservation of this sacred music, El Nuevo Oro will honor one of the most celebrated musical heritages on the planet and the orishas whose energy remind us of the importance of joy and fellowship.

Participating artists include Camilo Molina Gaetan, Abidoaye Holliday, Nina Rodriguez, Jonathan Troncoso, Harris Eisenstadt, Nelson Matthew Gonzalez, Ariacne Trujillo, Alvaro Benavides, and Danis Perez Prades’ Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Dance Ensemble.
