Saturday, February 27 - Sunday, February 28, 2016
City College Center for the Arts-City College of New York
CCCADI’s Trade/itions Symposium was a two-day event that explored the points of Orisha intersections through an artistic, activist, and 21st Century lens. These global traditions came to life through music, dance, panel-dialogue sessions, altar installations, and the moving image. The event, which drew people from California, North Carolina, Baltimore, Cuba, and the tri-state area, showcased the connections between spiritual beliefs, cultural traditions, and activism, with a focus on their manifestations today. Programs and activities included diverse expressions and holders of these traditions from throughout the Americas: Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, and the United States.
Presenters included: Baba Neil Clarke with Iyesá Drum Ensemble, & featured Akpon, Amma McKen; Master Cuban Percussionist, Roman Diaz & Ensemble, and from Trinidad, Something Positive.
