Job Title: Director of Operations
Location: Harlem, New York City NY
This is an in-office position, and the selected candidate will be expected to work from our office location on 120 E 125th St, New York, NY 10035, 3-5 days a week. 
Pay Range: This is an exempt management position. Base salary is $80,000 per annum. Healthcare benefits available.

Overview: The Director of Operations is responsible for managing and improving the efficiency of the organization's operations consistent with the agency’s mission and values. This position reports to the organization’s Executive Director.

Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will demonstrate, from experience, documentation, or presentation, a clear commitment to racial and social justice, an understanding of the need for cultural equity within arts and culture, an understanding of the role of artists in the arts and culture ecosystem and a firm understanding of the African Diaspora or a commitment to learning within a short period of time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for monitoring operating expenses and working with finance staff to analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting;

  • Responsible for overseeing the organization’s human resources requirements; including employee on-boarding, managing and administering health and other employee benefits, maintaining personnel records, monitoring insurance coverage, and ensuring that personnel policies are up-to-date;

  • Responsible for improving, implementing, and monitoring systems and procedures necessary for the smooth operation of the organization;

  • Responsible for overseeing the professional development/training program for staff and ensuring completion of annual performance appraisals;

  • Responsible for hiring and training administrative staff;

  • Responsible for handling and negotiating contract procurement and agreements with vendors;

  • Responsible for updating executives on business performance

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business, MBA/CPA preferred;

  • 4 - 5 years of financial and/or operations management experience in the arts and culture or related field;

  • Experience with business planning & operational management; human resource experience desirable

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement best practices in financial and operations management;

  • Solid knowledge of non-profit organizations and fund accounting;

  • Proven experience managing the quality and content of all financial and accounting data, reporting, and coordinating audits for an organization or significant department/program; business planning & operational management; human resource experience desirable;

  • Solid understanding of contracts management and compliance;

  • Knowledgeable of best practices in human resources management;

  • Demonstrated ability to work with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increase efficiency;

  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented.
