As an Afro Latina designer, the Caribbean Culture Center African Diaspora Institute has been an incredible organization for me to learn, build and celebrate the African Diaspora. I have been honored to be a fellow in the Innovative Cultural Advocacy Fellowship, student artist of the Community Arts University Without Walls program and a volunteer for a few of their events. Dr. Marta Moreno Vega and the powerful team at CCCADI have created access to information and people critical to how communities of color define themselves. The organization celebrates the arts and recognizes its importance in the expression of identity. My experiences at CCCADI allowed my voice to be heard and gave me a deeper understanding of who I am in both the local and global community. I networked and collaborated with other innovative thinkers in developing a common narrative of cultural equity that can lead to real change in our communities. CCCADI provided an environment where I felt fully recognized and genuinely supported. In short, there is power that comes from being seen and I will carry this spirit in my work.
