A Professional Development Evening for Educators: ART (IN)JUSTICE

The Education Department of CCCADI is excited to offer educators an evening event centered on exploring art and the social construct of "race".  The evening will include a wine reception, a special Race, Myth, Art, and Justice exhibition tour, lecture-presentation, and hands-on artmaking workshop. Educators will receive CCCADI information and lesson plan materials about our CCCADI’s Teaching Living Cultures (TLC) K-12 Arts Education programs, and TLC school gallery tours.  

Program Schedule:

5:00 pm - 5:30 pm  

(Activity A) Special Guided Tour of RACE, MYTH, ART, and JUSTICE with Co-Curator, C. Daniel Dawson

This exhibition of photographic works by twelve artists explores the intersecting ideas of race, myth, art, and justice through their unique lens to provide poignant ways the global African experience is permeated by the social construct of race.

5:00 pm - 6:45 pm  

(Activity B)  Uncovering Black New York History with Kama’u Ware, The Black Gotham Experience

Presentation, conversation, and workshop focused on providing unknown historical narratives of the contributions of African descendants in early New York’s development.

(Activity C) 6:45 pm - 7:50 pm | Political Poster Prints with CCCADI teaching artist, museum educator, Carlos Martinez-Dominguez

This hands-on experience provides an opportunity for cultural art-making. Teachers will create prints which speak to social justice and equity issues impacting the current lives of students.

7:50 pm - 8:00 pm | Wrap Up + Evaluations 

8:00pm Dismissal
