Harlem Restaurant Week | Taste & Talk: Rice Cultures of the African Diaspora
120 East 125th Street
New York, NY 10035
Have you ever noticed that regardless of wherever one originates in the global Black Diaspora, Black folks from the Caribbean, Africa, or the southern US all have a rice dish? Did you know that flavored rice dishes like Arroz con Gandules, Jambalaya, Caribbean rice and peas, Moro, and Jollof Rice, all have an African connection?
Join Celebrity Chef JJ Johnson, Field Trip, Chef Ejhadji Cisse, Ponty Bistro, and Chef Elsie Darrell, Sisters Cuisine to discuss the rich history and legacy of rice culture and its cultivation, which has traveled with past and present-day Africans to the tables of restaurants in Harlem.
RanDe Rogers, executive chef and co-owner of Sisters Cuisine and Delicious Solutions, will moderate.
