The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, in collaboration with Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture and the Leonard Davis Center for the Performing Arts, proudly presents Violines Para Ochún (Iru Duru Kan Omo Oshún), a musical and spiritual journey from Africa, to Cuba, to New York City.

An original four-chapter production under the musical direction of Louis Bauzó, Violines Para Ochún will feature an intergenerational cast of musicians, dancers and practitioners, many of whom have participated in CCCADI Sacred Traditions programming throughout our 50-year history.  

Violines para Ochún embodies the passing of the torch between generations:  from the elders who brought our Sacred Traditions from the basements to stages all over the world, to the next generation who will carry these traditions into the future. 

For five decades, honoring and preserving the Sacred Traditions of the African Diaspora has been at the heart of CCCADI’s mission.  As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary Year, Violines para Ochún marks another full-circle moment, bringing us back to the Oshun Festival series CCCADI presented throughout the 1980’s and 90’s.  Violines also welcomes home Louis Bauzó, a longtime CCCADI collaborator whose artistry graced our stages for decades, both with his ensemble Patakin, and alongside the legendary Tito Puente

We invite you to bring an offering to Ochún to place on our Community Altar.  We also encourage you to stop by our Community Archiving Lab for Culture and Justice pop-up table, where we will highlight a variety of archival materials from CCCADI’s Sacred Traditions programming across five decades.
