HURRICANE BERYL SOLIDARITY STATEMENT AND CALL TO ACTION

In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, we at the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) through our Caribbean-based program CROSSROADS, extend our deepest solidarity to all those affected by this devastating climate disaster. Our hearts go out to the communities that have suffered immense loss and disruption.

CCCADI is dedicated to promoting cultural equity, racial justice, and social equality for Black and African descendant communities throughout the Diaspora. Our steady commitment to these values drives us to stand firmly with our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean during these challenging times. Hurricane Beryl has once again highlighted the fragility of the region's infrastructure, exacerbated by the historical and ongoing impacts of (neo)colonialism and the climate crisis fueled by capitalism. These challenges demand an effort to strengthen the resilience and autonomy of the Caribbean and its inhabitants.

At this moment, we call on all members of the global community to come together in support of the Caribbean. We urge you to:

Raise awareness about the impact of climate change on the Caribbean and advocate for policies that promote climate resilience and justice. Engage with policymakers to ensure that the voices of Caribbean communities are heard and prioritized.

Together, we can build a future where the Caribbean not only survives but thrives. Let us stand in solidarity, uphold the values of justice and equity, and work towards a self-sustainable Caribbean ecosystem.
